Annamalai Swami was a young uneducated guy who came to see Ramana Maharshi . He sat by the sage, trying to meditate, surrounded by guests from all over the world, including famous thinkers and political leaders. Annamalai was unable to read, write, or grasp basic math. He'd never had the opportunity to do anything other than unskilled labour, and he didn't see himself doing anything else. Ramana never taught Annamalai how to meditate. Instead, he instructed him, and he never instructed anybody else. Ramana delegated responsibility for the ashram's finances and construction initiatives to Annamalai.
